​My name is John Gowdy.
​I am a New Jersey based "international" artist specializing in unbelievable sand sculpture displays of all kinds.
I am a retired fire fighter from the Atlantic City Fire Department having served 27 years, half of those years in the rank of captain. I have dedicated the rest of my life to the arts may it be, painting, sculpture, or the performance of both together. I love what I do and I know you will too!

Sand Sculpture -  My team and I have been carving sand for over 30 years professionally. I work with my lovely wife Laura. We have won many national, international, and world class first place awards in just about every master sand sculpture competition on the planet. Our greatest and most often won prize is "people's choice". We love pleasing the people who look at our sand displays and experience an emotional feeling from them.
 We work at events such as:
  • weddings and wedding proposals
  • conventions,
  • corporate logos,
  • state fairs,
  • private parties of any kind,
  • team building ,
  • lobbies of 5 star hotels,
  • and yes... even on beaches around the world.
  • we teach the art form to both large and small groups of children and adults.

Flying Colors - is a crazy performance in which I paint large portraits of famous people on a spinning canvas to music. Each painting being realized in the time it takes two songs to play or about seven minutes! The resulting paintings are usually auctioned off to support a local non profit organization. Many videos of the show can be seen on Youtube by searching  John Gowdy Flying Colors.

Marble Sculpture - My interest in sand sculpture has evolved into a more permanent medium, marble. I have many marble sculptures on public display in New Jersey high schools such as;  Princeton, Atlantic City, Absegami, Oakcrest, and Woodbury.
Other public displays are; The Police And Fire Fighter's Memorial County Park in Atlantic City, NJ and The Galloway, NJ Public Library.
Many marble sculptures have been sold to private collectors.
